How to use guitar effects pedals & amps from your mobile device (Android smartphone and tablet, iPad, iPhone)

How to connect your guitar to your phone or tablet?

When creativity strikes, you don’t want to waste your precious time plugging in extensions and cables. The portable guitar interfaces allow you to instantly connect your guitar to any iOS and Android device.  You can also record your guitar on your Android and iOS smart devices using guitar recording apps. Deplike can be integrated as an effects plugin inside the Garageband app. This way, you can utilize Deplike effects on iOS devices to record the guitar using mobile guitar effects and amps

Digital Connection (to the USB port of your phone or tablet)

This process requires connecting your guitar to a USB audio interface, which will be plugged into the USB port of your phone or tablet. We should also note that Deplike is the only guitar effects and amps mobile app on the Android market that supports USB interfaces. What do these USB audio interfaces do? They convert your analog guitar signal into a digital audio signal. They transfer the guitar signal to the phone/tablet and carry it back to your headphone or speaker in an enhanced HD studio quality sound format. These ones we recommend cost much less than the conventional interfaces for music production.

Some of the USB audio interfaces that are compatible with all phones and tablets are: TC Helicon Go Guitar Pro, Behringer UCG 102, iRig HD 2, iRig Pro I/O, Apogee Jam 96k, Apogee Jam Plus.

  1. Plug your guitar into the guitar audio interface with a standard 6.35 mm guitar cable. Every guitar interface has a standard jack input slot.
  2. Plug the USB cable of the audio interface into your phone/tablet through the USB port. You need a USB adapter called USB OTG to convert the cable of the interface to the USB type of your mobile device (USB C, Lightning, USB micro).
  3. These interfaces have either a 3.5 mm jack output or a 6.35 mm standard jack output for headphones/speakers. You can use these 3.5mm-to-6.35mm or 6.35mm-to-3.35mm converters depending on the output slot of the audio interface.

Analog Connection (into the headphone slot of your phone/tablet)

An analog audio interface is a piece of hardware that basically transmits the audio singal in an analog fashion. It receives the signal from the guitar through a standard jack and get that signal into iOS or Android devices. It does not process or optimize the guitar signal in any way but only transfers the signal to the mobile device, and back to the headphone or speaker. Some of the analog audio interfaces you can use to connect your guitar to an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet are suggested below.

Most of the analog audio interfaces have built-in jack output cables. You can plug the analog interfaces into the headphone slot of the phones/tablets.

  1. Plug  your guitar into the audio interface with a standard 6.35 mm guitar cable.
  2. Then, plug the jack cable of the audio interface into the headphone slot of your phone/tablet.
  3.  These interfaces have either a 3.5 mm jack output or a 6.35 mm standard jack output for headphones/speakers. You can jack converters depending on the output slot of the audio interface.
